Is it your motor or your missus? Which wins the battle for male affections?

- Cars win in battle for male affections, according to online poll
- Over a quarter of men would dump their partner if they damaged their car
- Four times as many men than women think a car is important in attracting the opposite sex

Its official – if it came to the crunch, men would choose their cars over their partners. Research* from car insurer MORE TH>N and Autotrader reveals that 80% of men are more passionate about their motor than their missus, and over a quarter (26%) would dump their other half if they scratched, crashed or drove their car without permission.

The results also revealed that four times as many men (20%) than women (5%) think a car is important in attracting the opposite sex, and nearly a third (32%) of men admit to referring to their car as either the ‘lovebug’, the ‘passion wagon’ or the ’sex machine’.

However, all is not lost on the romantic front – when asked what they would rather spend a financial ‘bonus’ on, more men would choose their partners over their car. Eight out of ten (83%) men even admit to using their prized possession to do something romantic for their partners.

Commenting on the findings, Jon Sellors, PR manager at MORE TH>N, said: “Men certainly see their cars as an important element in attracting the opposite sex, and some wouldn’t think twice about choosing their motor if it came to the crunch, particularly if their prized possession was damaged.

“However, although some men seem to value their cars far more than their ‘better halves’, there is still a degree of romance left in us. Our online poll revealed that cars have been used in many romantic situations, ranging from proposals and apologies, to even being transformed into a venue for a candle lit dinner!”
