Leading insurer MORE TH>N has welcomed the government announcement to tighten laws on vehicle insurance, having long supported the transition to closer collaboration between the DVLA and the Motor Insurance Database (MID) as a further measure to reduce the number of uninsured drivers on British roads.
As announced by the Transport Minister Jim Fitzpatrick, it will soon be an offence to keep a vehicle without insurance (unless declared as off the road). Those who flout this ruling will be subject to a penalty of £100 and the threat of court action to confiscate their vehicle.
MORE TH>N’s Head of Motor Insurance Keith Maxwell said “The six per cent of motorists who drive without insurance not only make the roads more dangerous, but also push up premiums for everyone else. MORE TH>N has long supported a link between the DVLA and the insurance industry to crack down on uninsured drivers. As such, MORE TH>N welcomes the government’s initiative to make vehicle insurance essential, excepting those who have made a Statutory Off Road Notification.”
