University possessions covered by parents household insurance

- £11,250 of contents cover and FREE legal helpline for policyholders’ children at university
- Save over £140 compared to the average cost of a specialist student policy1
- The MORE TH>N Legal Services add-on includes access to online legal documents, legal fees and mediation services.

With the rising costs of student fees and accommodation, parents can face a huge financial burden when their children go away to university. MORE TH>N home insurance is helping to ease the costs for parents by making 15 per cent of their own household insurance cover (£11,250) available to their children, at no extra cost , while they are studying at college or university.

Student houses are one of the most common targets for burglars due to their relatively poor security. They are often filled with high value items such as computers, mobile phones and stereos. A typical British student has an average of over £4,000 worth of possessions2.

A MORE TH>N home insurance policy also gives free legal advice. This is particularly useful if a dispute arises with a landlord, which is, according to MORE TH>N’s own data, a common cause of calls from students’ parents. The 24-hour legal helpline is manned by qualified legal professionals and is available for any family member to use.

Keith Maxwell, Head of Insurance at MORE TH>N, commented: “Parents can have a lot to think about when their children go away to university, to ensure they are financially secure and protected against any eventuality. With our students’ possessions cover, parents can rest assured that their children’s valuable belongings are properly covered. Our legal helpline can also help parents should they need to deal with sorting out leases or disputes with landlords.”

The MORE TH>N Legal Services section of MORE TH>N’s home insurance costs just under £18.50 per annum and provides families with a comprehensive package including:
- Cover up to £50,000 for legal fees. For example, should their son or daughter get involved in a dispute with their landlord or a third party, MORE TH>N can give the parents and their children advice and act on their behalf.
- Access to over 200 professionally written interactive legal documents, e.g. ‘demand for repayment of deposit’ letter.
- Access to professional advice, mediation and representation at employment tribunals or in court for any member of the family.
