MORE TH>N's position on windscreen insurance disks (WIDS) and uninsured drivers

Comment by David Pitt, Motor Manager:
“As a leading motor insurer, MORE TH>N is naturally interested in reducing the number of uninsured motorists in the UK and welcomes any moves to tackle this issue.

“However, the introduction of Windscreen Insurance Discs will not solve the problem on its own and we believe that a combination of a WID system together with greater use of the Motor Insurance Database is a more effective solution.

“The Motor Insurance Database is a pro-active tool and police officers have direct access to it inside their patrol cars. This enables them to run a check against the number plate of a suspicious vehicle to find out whether it is insured or not. Immediate action can then be taken against offenders.

“Windscreen insurance discs are open to fraud and are reliant on the vehicle being stationary before anyone can check the disc.”
